Most small business owners don't take advantage of basic online tools to grow their companies. Don't be one of them. You may be surprised to learn that a disturbing 52% of small-businesses do not have a web presence! It is 2014! In a 24/7 connected America, whether it's a mobile phone in a pocket or a computer at home your customers are only a click away. Just think. When you need to search for an answer or service quick where do you go? In 2012, a Pew study revealed a majority of seniors, aged 65 or older, were using the internet and growing! What does this mean? If you don't have a website, your business is not competing and is essentially, invisible to online consumers. Bottom line, if your customers want something they go online to look for it. If you do not have a website or a web presence you are practically invisible.
However, if you are one of the small businesses who do have a website you may not be safe either. A report released named Small Business B2B Call to Action Study revealed that 70% of the small-business websites reviewed did not have any call to action on their websites, 68% don't have an email address on their home page, and 27% don't even have a phone number. Having a website is part of the equation, consumers are lazy they want to search, review, click, and call. Having a website merely to have one is ineffective and must not be ignored. Ensure your website has clear call to action buttons, contact information, or better yet a form so your customers can contact you right from the site. All of these tools limit the barriers between you and your customers leading to more business. A website is part of your online marketing strategy which should included cross promoting your business using social media, print, and reputation management. Small businesses thrive on inexpensive avenues to target and acquire customers, do not become invisible by ignoring the most inexpensive (compared to potential reach) and most widely used medium. In terms of lead generation, a properly constructed web page can lead to a considerable amount of lead captures over a poorly designed one. So, the next time one of your potential customers is online looking for a service you offer, make sure you can be found and are effectively displaying ways to be contacted. This means ensuring your small business website has a purpose. Make sure your website has a clear call to action your customers can see and interact with along with contact information, if your site is for promotional purposes make sure it is updated regularly with content, if you sell products make sure your store eCommerce experience is streamlined and easy to follow. Ensure you submit your website to the big three search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo) in order to have your site indexed and ranked. If you have social media use it. Again, do not fall into a trap of just creating a website/Facebook/twitter just to have it. In order for it to be useful, you have to use it and interact socially. This will help drive traffic and interest to your website. A blog about your specific expertise or industry is also beneficial if it pertains to your small business. All of these actions help your search engine optimization which leads to increased traffic to your site. Stay tuned!.
